I.
I am ugly! Who are you?
A black tongue made of razors
Mercurial and bluish blood
Fox-like thoughts
And a heart feeble as heifer's cud.
II.
A nose nothing more than a beak,
Cheeks that are always round
When I see myself smile
My mind runs to a faraway place
where no mirror can be found.
III.
Emily is right
To hide away in your house
To lose friends, enemies, even yourself
To place your heart in a pickling jar
on the highest and dustiest shelf
Emily is right
To hide away in your house
But to laugh at the tickling of your feet
from the delicate whiskers of a familiar mouse.
IV.
Oh, mouse, my one true friend
It seems we were meant to be!
Your pathetic and beady eyes
And your silver dollar ears
You are just a sad, small and muffled pitch that no one ever hears
And, dear mouse, with your protruding pink nose
With you, only your shadow ever cares to go.
V.
You and me, mouse
We can split that stale morsel of cheese
Forever holed away in our quarantined traps
Hoping to stop the spread of our mutual and deadly disease.
